Apologies to Doctor Seuss! I decided I want to go to a basketball game this weekend. I'm going by myself. I found a great deal on what looks like a really good seat right behind the bench. I assume it's a great price because it was a single ticket, and most people don't go by themselves. But of course as soon as I bought it, I started imagining the terrible reasons someone might be selling it. The people next to the seat are weirdos. The view is blocked. My favorite OCD reason: someone barfed on the seat and it's totally gross. Why yes, that's probably it.
And of course, there's that whole "my boss is on vacation next weekend" aspect, whereby I worry about getting sick surrounded by all those people at the game and then passing it along just in time for her trip.
To which I would like to say, nice try OCD! I'm going anyway. Here's hoping for a big win!
My Apologies!

Good for you for going anyway! Oh man, my mind goes all kinds of crazy places too - like the barf on the seat thing. "Why yes, that's probably it." Love that!
ReplyDeleteHave fun at the basketball game! I went by myself to see one and a half games (at the local college) and really enjoyed it.
ReplyDeleteLove the post title, because really, it's just so true. I find comfort reading posts like this, realizing that other people with ocd think the exact same things I do, and that it really is the disorder and not reality. Enjoy the game!
ReplyDeleteAnn, I like that "nice try OCD" at the end. You are so strong! Way to go!
ReplyDeleteI love basketball, especially college. Are you going to a professional bball game? When I'm watching a game, I get totally wrapped up in it. If you're like me, you'll be enjoying yourself too much to think of OCD.
I'm glad ocd doesn't stop you from having fun! Enjoy the game!
ReplyDeleteGood job! I'm strating to appreciate and love my exposures, and it's mostly from your inspiring posts!
ReplyDeleteThis is a great title and though I am a huge fan of Dr. Seuss it is so true for OCD, and fits very well. I'm interested to hear how the basketball game went and good for you for going! OCD can be so exhausting...and I admire the fact that you relentlessly and tirelessly battle back against the thoughts that your brain provides to you.
ReplyDeleteHope the game was great....and I love your sense of humor!
ReplyDeleteThanks to all for your nice comments. The game was fun, although my team lost. The poor seat, how I had besmirched its good name. It was excellent, a really nice view, with 4 empty seats in front of me. Perfect!
