What Will They Think of Next

Recently saw this posted on Facebook. A friend had taken this photo in a restaurant bathroom. Her comment was "now I've seen everything." But sure enough, people came along to say they wish that door protectors were in all bathrooms; after all, some people don't wash their hands. Now, I of all people can theoretically understand the sentiment. But the fact is, if you're worried about what's on their hands in the bathroom, you pretty much shouldn't touch anything. And while I get that sentiment, too, it's just not a good idea.

It continues to amaze me the extent to which society tries to push germ phobia. Listen people, it's not all it's cracked up to be. :)

  1. I know, right? I think my contamination OCD would have been less restrictive if there weren't products like this and people pushing these fears. Knowledge is power - except when you have OCD. :)

  2. Ann, I've never seen these. I guess they go a step beyond the "sanitizer" dispensers that have popped up everywhere.

You're right. Door handles are not the only place germs hide. They're everywhere, and thank goodness, most are harmless to us.

But that's not to say I wouldn't consider using one of those tissues if it was available! :-)

  3. You are right. Germs are everywhere, they've always been everywhere, and they will always be everywhere. We humans do just fine with that, and all these gimmicks to avoid germs are ways for people to cash in on germ phobia. And it certainly isn't helpful to OCD sufferers!

  4. Aaaaah! I just want to scream when I see stuff like this. I run, run, run when I see these things now. I liken it to putting a drink in front of an alcoholic. In fact, I kind of get mad when I'm confronted with this stuff because I feel like it's just playing with my head. But I guess that is a good thing as in the past I would have actually used it.

  5. What happened to worrying about wasting paper? I don't know what was wrong with the use-the-paper-towel-you-dried-your-hands-on method. I alternate between touching the door handles and using one finger or my paper towel, but it isn't a big ocd area for me at the moment, so it isn't as much of an issue for me.
